About us

The Cheltenham Foodbank fund has been running all through my second mayoral year from May 2020 -  to provide much needed financial support to food banks, having been rebranded from the Mayor’s Food Bank Fund.

We set this up because demand for food went up by more than three times during the Coronavirus lockdown, as some people’s financial situation became extremely difficult, often because they have been laid off or lost their income.

We see this need as ongoing for some time, as we start to unlock slowly from the Coronavirus crisis restrictions, and many people are still in food poverty -  and being helped  through food banks, food pantries and through provision of food vouchers. The local charity Family Space have kindly agreed to take over my fund under the banner of #feedcheltenham .

There are many stories of people who have benefitted this way, from people who have been sleeping on the streets to those whose businesses suddenly stopped trading overnight as lockdown restrictions were imposed, or indeed re-imposed.

So, this is a good way to help so that food banks can continue to offer and expand their service! This enables them to buy items of stock that are not always donated, also to buy equipment such as racking, crates and refrigeration. So, by buying lottery tickets earmarked for Cheltenham Food Bank Fund, 50% of all you contribute will go to local foodbanks and pantries. Every month we will see what has come in and give it out where most needed.

Thank you for your support!

Yours sincerely,

Councillor Roger Whyborn – Mayor of Cheltenham 2019 -2021
