We provide Tai chi-based therapeutic movement classes for people in Cheltenham living with dementia and their carers or loved ones to attend together. Tai chi can have profound benefits for mental, physical and emotional health, including slowing the onset and progression of dementia.
The programme consists of an 8-week course held three times per year at The Isbourne in the town centre, with each course suitable for beginners, plus monthly drop-in classes and a bespoke home practice DVD.
We teach a specially developed sequence using the TMW method (TaiChi Movements for Wellbeing), which aims to help short term memory, cognitive function, balance, coordination, confidence, stress & anxiety and much more.
Classes include social time & refreshments to encourage people to make friends as social isolation is a common factor for those with dementia. We also offer transport to and from classes for those who need it.
The Isbourne Foundation is passionate about providing a service for vulnerable people in the community but we do rely on funding so we need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our project.
Thank you for your support and good luck!
With best wishes
