Benhall Residents' Association (BRA) was set up 60 years ago to bring people together to take positive action for our community and to give all households a voice in local decision making. Today BRA remains a strong and active community association with a firm emphasis on community well-being. We run the local Neighbourhood Watch, a monthly litter pick and monthly park volunteer group as part of our ongoing commitment to local people. We have around 500 member households and a Facebook page with over 1100 individual members.
Our community aspires to be a supportive and healthy place to live. Many of our residents are elderly, having lived in Benhall since the estate was built. We also have many young families as Benhall is comprised mainly of 3 bedroom homes with a garden. Both groups benefit from a community that is working together to improve the wellbeing facilities for everyone. We have a network of road representatives who monitor the views of folk in their road and we get a good feel for what matters to local people through these road reps, through the Facebook page and through annual opinion testing at our AGM. For residents, the community asset that they value most is the local (Benhall) park and the community concerns that feature most keenly are the state of the roads/pavements and community health and safety.
We need funding to enable us to continue to enhance the facilities in Benhall. With new funds we can install a defibrillator and our volunteers will be able to put down chippings where the park is muddiest. In the medium term we will be able to install new play equipment for the children, and long term, we hope to see a community hub for our residents in Benhall and paths which make the park accessible to all.
