Spotlight - Cheltenham Animal Shelter

01 March 2023

Cheltenham Animal Shelter has been supporting animals in need in the Cheltenham area since 1926. Our objectives are to provide the advancement of animal welfare through our mission, which is to provide shelter and care for homeless pets in need, whilst attempting to locate appropriate, loving new homes.

We also aim to promote awareness of good animal welfare and kindness to animals through our education programmes, and we work with our local community helping them to care for their pets at home.

We joined the Cheltenham Lottery because of the increasing need for our services. Over the last few years we have seen more pets with medical conditions, who need our help. From routine flea and worm treatments to neutering and life-saving operations; we will do what is needed to give each animal the best chance of a happy life.

We raise money from a wide range of sources and the Cheltenham Lottery is a vital source of income for us.

Denzel

Without the support, we get we could not help pets such as Denzel, a six-year-old Spaniel who was abandoned and left tied to a post in the rain. His entire coat was matted and full of debris, and he was very underweight.

Wilma

When Wilma arrived at the Shelter she had a nasty wound on her leg, after she was found curled up on the side of the road by a passer-by.

Mittens

Beautiful kitty, Mittens, was brought to the Shelter after her owner sadly passed away. While undergoing a health check our vets noticed a lump behind one of her ears so took an x-ray of the area. We were shocked and saddened to learn that Mittens had what appeared to be a lead pellet lodged under her skin, consistent with being shot by an air rifle. We carried out surgery to remove the pellet, and luckily Mittens has made a good recovery.

These are just a few of the pets we have helped, and this year we are already seeing more homeless pets needing medical attention. We would like to thank everyone who plays the Cheltenham Lottery to support the animals in our care.
